One important mineral is Biotin which is an essential ingredient for building healthy skin cells. Foods that are rich in Biotin include bananas, rice, peanuts and rice. Copper and Vitamin C are important for encouraging the growth of collagen which is the supportive tissue in our skin. Foods which are abundant in copper include meats and fish, as well as sunflower seeds and cashew nuts. Citrus fruits are the best sources of Vitamin C such as oranges and kiwi fruits.

Don’t forget to drink water. Lots of it. By drinking water you are helping to keep your skin hydrated and elastic. You’ve probably noticed wrinkles around your eyes on summer days when you haven’t had much to drink. Under the surface a similar thing is going on. Dehydration can lead to cell damage which in turn can lead to the dermis getting torn and stretch marks appearing. Avoid coffee and tea as these contain caffeine. Caffeine is a diuretic and will take moisture out of your skin.

Exercise

All you need to do is gentle exercise, especially if you are pregnant. Please seek medical advice on exercise if you are pregnant. By exercising you are encouraging your blood to flow around the body and to your skin. The movements you are making also keep the skin healthy and pliable by gently stretching and contracting it.
